Happy Mother's Day!
This kick off letter is dedicated to all the moms out there.
I just want to say that if you are reading this you are a certified OG. I appreciate you for being here. This one is dedicated to all the mom’s out there.
Because whether by birth or by love, the people who mother us help keep the world turning.

Thank You Master - Donny Hathaway
While I think this song is more of a prayer to the higher god, it feels maternal in its depth. Donny Hathaway had one of the most soulful voices of the 20th century—rich, and deeply spiritual. Whether singing about love, pain, or gratitude, his music carried a quiet strength that always felt like a warm embrace.

I.O.U. - Jimmy Dean
This one’s less of a song and more like a heartfelt note to Mom. Jimmy Dean just talks, about the little things she did day in and day out: cooking, fixing things, showing up. It’s simple, honest, and somehow hits even harder without any big production. Just a soft reminder that moms do more than we usually stop to thank them for.

2Pac by Danny Clinch
Dear Mama - 2Pac
There’s something about this song that just sticks with you. Tupac isn’t trying to be poetic, he’s just telling the truth about his life. This song is about growing up hard, watching his mom do everything she could to keep things together, and about loving her for it, even when things got messy. It’s one of those songs that feels like it was written for all of us in some shape or form no matter the type of relationship you have with your mom. Also the beat just perfectly compliments his vocal cadence
Quote of the Day
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.
- John Lennon
Video of the Day
This suggestion is not necessarily a single video, it’s a show about rockstars and their moms hosted by Dave Grohl and his mother Virginia. Dave Grohl founded the Foo Fighters and was the drummer in Nirvana for those who may not know. He’s a f*cking legend.
From Cradle to Stage, is a heartwarming series that celebrates the powerful bond between musicians and their mothers, exploring the stories, sacrifices, and love that helped shape some of the world’s most iconic artists.
If you want to check out the show you’ll need a Paramount+ subscription 😕
A piece of history.
In 1971, LIFE magazine sent photographer John Olson to capture rock stars at home with their parents, revealing a tender, human side behind the fame. This is my favorite photo from the series not only because it’s Eric Clapton but, because of how he looks at his mother with nothing but love and affection. I hope you enjoyed this. I’ll see you all on Tuesday.
I love you mom.
