Today is an interesting one. I’ve got some psych rock, a summer EDM banger and some indie folk rock. I think it’s a reflection of where my mind has been lately, all over. Not in a bad way more of an organized chaos. Anyways, if you’ve been enjoying these then please share with your friends and family but, only if they really love music.

Should I start putting all these songs into one playlist? Let me know in the comments!

Magic Mountain - Hollow Ship

Based in Gothenburg, this band is one of the leading acts out of Sweden’s psychedelic rock scene for good reason. Their crunchy and melodic guitar riffs make you want to take a tab and melt away.

If you're looking for a track that encapsulates the essence of modern psychedelic rock, this is it. This song is a masterclass in blending vintage sounds with contemporary flair, offering listeners a journey through swirling melodies and compelling rhythms.

Released in 2020 as part of their debut album Future Remains, “Magic Mountain” stands as a testament to Hollow Ship's innovative approach to music-making. The band's ability to merge the analog warmth of the '60s with today's production values results in a sound that's both nostalgic and refreshingly new.

For those who appreciate the intricate layers of psychedelic rock and the groove of afro-beat influences, this track is a must-listen.

Istanbul - Baby Jake & RENA

There’s something about this song that is so dumb but so catchy at the same time. When I listen to this song it makes me feel like a nerdy crypto bro who made millions of dollars trading meme coins and is now spending his summer on a rented yacht in Mykonos with 50 Russian models. HAHA. Lyrically the song was definitely written for virality but the production hits. I could totally see this making its waves through the European islands this summer if the right DJ plays it.

i haunt your dreams - hey, nothing

Atlanta’s indie-folk duo hey, nothing hit the ground running with this release in 2022. The song captures the essence of youthful longing and introspection, wrapped in a lo-fi acoustic soundscape that feels equal parts raw and tender.

The duo comprised of Harlow Phillips and Tyler Mabry actually started out as middle school rivals at Hull Middle in Duluth, Georgia, before music brought them together in high school. They began writing songs in a local park, a place so pivotal to their story that they eventually got its coordinates tattooed as a permanent reminder of where it all began.

Their band name, “hey, nothing,” is derived from The Perks of Being a Wallflower, a subtle nod to the identity crises and emotional confusion that define coming-of-age. That same vulnerability bleeds through in their music. They blend influences from across the spectrum including ‘50s pop, emo, folk, even Johnny Cash which results in something familiar but unmistakably their own.

Take a listen to their entire discography if you dig this one.

Quote of the Day

I’m not perfect. But I’ll always be real.

Video of the Day

This is a video of Tame Impala performing his debut album, InnerSpeaker live from his house in Western Australia aka Wave House. This was a live stream he did during COVID. What I appreciate about Kevin Parker is not only his undeniable talent and vision but his ability to truly capture the feeling of happiness and hope within his music. He’s crafted a sound that is uniquely his own. You know without doubt when you hear a song of his that it’s him. Also let’s talk about the house for minute. His music is exactly what you’d expect to hear if you had a view like that. I had the opportunity to briefly meet him as he was coming into Germano Studios in NYC. I looked at him and simply said, “Brother. Thank you.” He responded with a gentle ‘come here’ motion, gave me a hug and whispered in my ear, “You’re welcome”. HAHAHAH it was so unexpected, but so awesome at the same time.

Photo of the Day

In honor of Tame Impala this is an image of him while he was recording Lonerism. there’s been some debate on Reddit as to whether or not this was shot at his home in Australia or apartment in Paris. Don’t know, don’t really care haha. The photograph was taken by Matt Sav, who’s worked extensively with him and Australian band, Pond. You can check out some of his work here. I love how this image captures Kevin in his element, headphones on, Rickenbacker bass in hand and all of his toys surrounding him. Some of my favorite photographs I’ve taken have come from studio sessions as you are able to capture artists in some of their most vulnerable states.

For those made it here, thank you so much for hearing what I have to say. I truly appreciate it.

I hope you all have a great Sunday and I’ll see you on Tuesday!
